- Summary:
- This case focuses on Nollywood, Africa's largest and most dominant cinema tradition. Decolonizing soundtrack in Black cinema, whether in Africa or the diasporas, raises fundamental questions about authenticity. Following an introduction that foregrounds decolonization, the first section discusses the Nollywood film music esthetic. The second section explores how Nollywood film music differs from that of Hollywood. The final section critically interrogates the nature of a decolonized Nollywood film music for the presence or absence of forms of Eurocentric value systems and knowledge productions. Readers will consider whether decolonizing music in Black cinema is ultimately possible in a globalized world.
