In 2015, Miloni had recently joined ABC Tax Consultants, a (fictional) tax consultancy firm in India, as a new intern. With the recently launched online portal, tax consulting firms that provided tax filing services to their customers were grappling with the new system, as most of their employees were from the era when tax returns were filed manually. For Miloni, the primary challenge she faced, was unlike that faced by most in this profession. While she was quick to grasp the online tax filing process (the digital aspect), it was the tax calculation process that was a challenge for her. Miloni, however, was surprised that her senior seasoned colleagues seemed uncomfortable with the new system of online tax filing. While the top management of ABC Tax Consultants was focused on attracting and retaining clients for better business, many of the employees were challenged by their own struggles. They seemed to be struggling with getting everyone in the organisation adapt to the new system. This situation often made Miloni wonder as to what the reasons for this situation could be and what could be done to address it. Students will be asked to diagnose the underlying issues in the case, relate them to change management concepts and theories, and suggest appropriate solutions.
