- Whisk & Whimsy ("The Company") is a small, locally owned bakery located in Bakersville, California. The bakery was founded in 2020 by the owner, Sarah Johnson, and has both a brick-and-mortar location and an online store. The Company specializes in a variety of baked goods, as well as hosting baking classes in their Bakersville store.In early November 2024, Sarah Johnson noticed suspicious activity in relation to the bakery's inventory. After additional review, she suspected that the lead manager, Olivia Green, was potentially committing fraud. Sarah spoke with a colleague in the baking business who encouraged her to reach out to Gold & Star, LLP, a forensic accounting firm in the Sacramento area, to seek their services. Sarah engaged Gold & Star, LLP to investigate claims of potentially fraudulent activities involving Olivia Green. Specifically, the forensic accounting team will investigate financial transactions, such as reviewing financial records, identifying inconsistencies in transactions, and verifying information.By accessing company financial and accounting information, students will use their analytic skills to identify any fraudulent activity, quantify the potential fraud, and develop a response to recommend controls to prevent future incidents from occurring.
