Summary:
The case presents summary notes from a social media search and the transcript from a three-way conversation in McDonald's orchestrated by a final-year university business school student (Yuval), who is weighing up their next-step career options. With a strong focus on the lived experience of working at Rent-a-Car, Israeli-born Yuval listens to two friends (PJ and Misha), who have already graduated and now work there, to try to understand if it is a good fit for them. PJ (London Eastender) has had a very positive experience so far and enjoys working at Rent-a-Car in a particularly friendly branch. They hope to be in line for a promotion soon, having regularly triggered monthly cash performance bonuses and been selected to attend two reward events already. Eastern European-born Misha, on the other hand, does not share such a rosy perspective, has found their manager to be less inspiring, and works in a high-stress, high-staff-churn branch. This case is primarily designed to help students assess the culture of a potential employer, synthesizing primary and secondary qualitative research methods. In attempting to develop an understanding of what it might be like to work at the fictionalized Rent-a-Car firm, students will reflect on how to evaluate their personal fit with a potential employer's culture.
