In this scenario, students play a role of independent consultants hired to assess the general environment of VegVeg--a Polish restaurant chain for vegetarians. They are presented with background information about VegVeg and turbulent changes in its general environment in the years 2020-2022. The information also includes datasets on the current and forecasted economic and political situation in Poland, consumer behavior data, sales reports, and financial statements.As a first step students conduct a political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) analysis for the Polish food service industry, on the brink of the COVID-19 pandemic, based on the accompanying documents and datasets. They have to recommend the actions the company should take in order to survive the potential upcoming turmoil. Then, they are asked to assess their decisions and compare them with the actual choices that VegVeg made until the beginning of 2022. Afterwards, students perform the PEST analysis again, evaluating the general environment shortly before the start of the Russian invasion in Ukraine. In the next phase, which is optional, they compare their second PEST analysis with the actual, current data and discuss which elements they could have evaluated differently and how it could have changed the decision made by VegVeg's CEO.
