Summary:
This Data Challenge involves a collaboration between two companies, Be Spoken, a small haberdashery (clothing and accessories shop) in Atlanta, Georgia, and PACE Social, a local social media marketing agency. Kyla Leon is proudly taking over the family business and genuinely wants to grow Be Spoken to become a household name in Atlanta. Her father, Alejandro Leon III, opened the haberdashery in the 1970s after immigrating to the United States. He felt that this shop was his "American dream." Thus, he named the shop Be Spoken as his way of establishing a voice and platform of his own and as a play on bespoke (i.e., custom-made) goods. To fulfill Kyla's aspiration of growing Be Spoken into a recognized and respected brand, students engage in a multifaceted analysis of the social media data provided and make recommendations for Kyla as to how she should proceed in her collaboration with PACE Social. Students make recommendations on the types of content and subject matter based on the data provided from ~40 posts across Facebook and Instagram. Previous knowledge required is a basic understanding of marketing and social media engagements. Recommended student levels include both undergraduate (juniors or seniors) and graduate (master of marketing or first-year MBA) students.
