Summary:
This Data Challenge provides insights into the challenges and opportunities involved in building a successful sustainable tourism company in the Middle East. The Challenge examines an Egyptian small enterprise called WG. WG is a sustainable tourism company that has a proven track record in the Middle East as the leading trekking and climbing company. Seven Arab Everest summiteers began their journey with this travel company. Moreover, it is considered the first company in the Middle East to achieve a zero-carbon footprint. In this Challenge, undergraduate students analyze primary data drawn from an interview, as well as secondary data, to extract the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillars (such as environmental and social economic matters) that the company is interested in focusing on and to develop strategies to address them. The Challenge provides data sources to help students understand the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are prominent priorities in each of the three countries where WG organizes its trekking trips most often. Ideally, students would be familiar with thematic analysis before completing this Data Challenge.
