Summary:
In October 2024, Mike Jeffries, who served as CEO for Abercrombie & Fitch from 1992 to 2014, was one of three men arrested on charges for crimes that were alleged to have happened during his time with the company. Though Jeffries left the company a decade before the indictment, Abercrombie's current leadership team found it was part of the crisis since headline after headline connected the organization to Jeffries' alleged crimes. Despite the decade-long separation between Jeffries and Abercrombie & Fitch, the company found itself once again trying to separate itself from its past. Through this case, students will be asked to examine the crisis faced by Abercrombie & Fitch, apply situational crisis communication theory to the company's response, and assess whether its response was effective.
