In this Indigenous business story, Neda Toeg is a founder of a social enterprise called Sweetgrass Pharmacy & Compounding. The business works closely with local health-care providers, traditional medicine practitioners, Indigenous governments, and other partners to offer high-quality pharmaceutical care which is culturally grounded in Indigenous knowledge and traditional medicines. Neda Toeg is a member of the M'Chigeeng First Nation; she lives on-reserve and operates her business on Manitoulin Island in northern Ontario. Neda shares her experience training to become a pharmacist, how she approaches the work that she does and how she wants the pharmacy to be embedded in her community. She discusses the importance of having good mentors, practicing her values through service, and responding to the needs of her community. Neda shares stories about the challenges that she faces with the structure of her business on-reserve, and finding employment practices that 'fit' with the pharmacy and the culture that she wants to create there. Neda's story is one of perseverance and the power of embracing one's gifts. Above all, Neda highlights how understanding and valuing a decolonial perspective shapes how she honours her employees and their life experiences to foster a sense of belonging through their work at Sweetgrass Pharmacy & Compounding.
