- Summary:
- This case involves Odel Plc, a public quoted company listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in Sri Lanka, a frontier economy in South Asia. This illustrative case allows students to examine characteristics of ownership structure, and review working capital policy and liquidity under different ownership, particularly in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As ownership concentration is a common feature at the company, under different owners, the company moved toward adopting either a conservative working capital policy or an aggressive working capital policy. This case shows how the liquidity position of the company can be measured by current ratio changes under different working capital policies. Students will also be asked to consider agency theory as an appropriate theoretical basis for investigating issues pertaining to ownership structures.
