- Summary:
- This case explores the challenges Red Bull faced when its iconic slogan led to a lawsuit for false advertising. The energy drink producer was long known for its slogan "Red Bull gives you wings," but in 2013 Red Bull found itself in court when one regular consumer claimed, among other things, that he had been drinking the energy drinks for a decade and had yet to grow wings. Although the claims seemed like a joke, the outcome was anything but funny for Red Bull. In all, Red Bull settled for a total of USD 13 million. This case applies False Advertising Theory to the accusations against Red Bull and its iconic slogan. Through this case, students will be asked to examine the claims made against Red Bull and apply False Advertising Theory to the company's marketing strategy.
