Ce volume réunit une sélection d'études présentées lors des 43e Rencontres Internationales d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de Nice Côte d'Azur qui se sont attachées à explorer la question de la division sociale du travail, et plus généralement de la différenciation des activités humaines, traitée au travers de l'analyse des vestiges matériels. Conformément à la tradition de ces Rencontres, cette question est ici abordée à travers différentes disciplines (histoire, archéologie, anthropologie...), dans un vaste cadre chronologique (de la préhistoire aux sociétés préindustrielles) et géographique (Europe, Proche Orient, Asie, Afrique et Amérique). Après quelques études anthropologiques comportant une dimension théorique ou épistémologique, ce volume présente une série d'essais de reconstitution des modes d'organisation sociale d'activités humaines passées, fondés sur l'examen de diverses catégories d'objets, de monuments ou d'images, considérées à différentes échelles spatiales (de l'atelier au territoire, en passant par l'habitat). This volume brings together a selection of papers presented at the 43rd Rencontres Internationales d'Archéologie et d'Histoire de Nice Côte d'Azur that focused on the social division of labour and, more generally, on the differentiation of human activities through the analysis of material culture. In keeping with the tradition of these Rencontres, this question is approached here through different disciplines (history, archaeology, anthropology, etc.), within a broad chronological (from prehistory to pre-industrial societies) and geographical framework (Europe, the Near East, Asia, Africa and America). Starting with a series of anthropological studies featuring a theoretical or epistemological focus, this volume presents a series of papers aiming to reconstitute the modes of social organization of past human activities based on the examination of various categories of objects, images and monuments that are analysed at different spatial.
