This article explores the forms of the royal court of the Shah of Nepal through the course of history; beginning from when the Shah ruled the small kingdom of Gorkha to the return to power over Nepal post 1951. It seeks to provide answers to the following questions: what were the organizational characteristics of the Shah court in the kingdom of Gorkha? Did they persist after the Shah's conquest of the territory that is now Nepal? What happened to courtiers during the period from 1846-1951 while the government was run by Prime Ministers? What were the effects of this long interregnum on the organizational principles of the Shah monarchy upon the return to power in 1951? Can one consider that the King's "coup" on December 15th, 1960 represented a restoration of the pre-1846 monarchy from the court's point of view, or should one describe modern-day rulers in Nepal as "court-less" kings?Cet article explore les formes de la cour royale des Shah du Népal, depuis l'époque où les Shah régnaient sur le petit royaume de Gorkha, jusqu'à leur retour au pouvoir après 1951. Il vise à fournir des réponses aux questions suivantes : quelles étaient les caractéristiques de l'organisation de la cour des Shah dans le royaume de Gorkha ? Se sont-elles maintenues après leur conquête du territoire qui constitue aujourd'hui le Népal ?
