- Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain tissue associated with clinical evidence of brain dysfunction. Flaviviruses, such as tick-borne encephalitis virus, Japanese encephalitis virus, Murray Valley encephalitis virus, or St. Louis encephalitis virus, represent important causative agents of encephalitis in humans in various parts of the world.
