Summary:
The author's intention is to study the patient, investigating his feelings and his role in the context of tuberculosis. To this end, he unveils the disease, specialists, institutions and social relations related to the white plague in Brazil in the first fifty years of the last century. Interesting for health professionals, historians and anyone interested in the human focus on the history of tuberculosis, this book discusses the construction of ideas about the disease in Brazil, analyzing individual and collective behaviors. The use of diverse documentary sources, such as literary works and medical records, is important, as they are fundamental pieces in the composition of the social history of the disease and the patient and of everyone involved in the tragedy governed by tuberculosis.
