- Summary:
- This is a core hitlist new edition of our best-selling, classic literature review title. Originally part of the SSS series, it takes a more sophisticated, philosophy-oriented approach to literature reviews; it is the 'how to think' through your lit review and helps students develop both intellectual and technical skills. The current edition has been commended for its clear, encouraging writing style, accessible approach, and variety of insightful examples. Literature review is a large, established market and is one of the key methods/skills that nearly every social science student encounters as part of their research methods or dissertation courses. They are used across the social sciences, and Hart has traditionally done well in B-and-M, Education, and Health/Nursing. It has been picked up across the upper UG and PG market, and this new edition will retain the critical, sophisticated approach it's known for while also being more inclusive of upper UG. We have a number of titles in this space, but Hart distinguishes itself as the higher-level, classic 'thinking' guide to literature reviews and uses more complex case studies/examples to push literature review forward as a method. This new edition will build on the success of previous editions by: (a) Retaining the example-driven pedagogy (which is an important distinction to Ridley, Booth, and now Thomas) with a focus on improving signposting to ease navigation and maximise the impact of the book's learning features; (b) Updating and diversifying the range of examples included to better reflect contemporary issues and appeal to readers across the social sciences; and (c) Restructuring chapters to help readers develop skills in a sequential way. The new edition will be taken out of the SSS series. Literature reviews are an integral part of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research, and this will give us the opportunity to refresh the title and have more room with design, with a fresh cover and flexibility with layout.
