Summary:
It brings together the thinking and analysis of experts on contemporary health system reforms in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, the United States, Mexico and Québec. Health as an essential component of the Social Welfare State, universality and equity, the system's financing structure, rising health care costs, sector privatization, representation of the interests of social actors, are some of the themes mentioned. The articles allow a comparative view of the various and the good (or bad) outcome of the proposed changes in progress. This is an excellent opportunity to compare the experiences of these countries, which are simultaneously so close and so disparate with each other, at a time when the traditional centralized model is being challenged and new decentralized forms of organization are under construction.
