Summary:
"This major reference work comprehensively showcases the unique work of leading scholars researching in and around the area of violence against women and girls (VAWG) globally. VAWG is a systemic issue and the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicates that globally about 1 in 3 (30%) of women worldwide have been subjected to either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. This handbook covers a range of perspectives and contexts both on and offline, and scholarly analysis of legal frameworks, policy responses and criminal justice practice. Split into two main sections, it covers forms and experiences of VAWG and responses. It takes an intersectional approach, looking at how women’s experiences may intersect with experiences of migration, racism, disablism, homophobia, transphobia, whorephobia, and prejudice against gender identity. In recognising of the intersections of different forms of gendered prejudice, this handbook provides an innovative contribution to the literature of VAWG by encouraging the readers to think about the complexities of VAWG but also to think about how different women around the world experience violence in different ways"-- Springer Nature Link
