Summary:
"Streaming platforms have been looking to other countries to not only provide new audiences but new content as well. Korea, already well-known for its innovative media properties, has been one area of attention with Netflix especially investing in the production of original Korean titles and releasing hits such as Squid Game, The Glory, and Kingdom. Han uses Korea as a case study to explore Netflix's global activities and how it asserts its enormous cultural power on media production even in non-Western countries. He examines four key areas that he argues are critical for Netflix's strategy-creativity, diversity, infrastructure, and seriality-and discusses how the platform uses them to dominate the global television market. He shows how these areas play a part in debates about regulation, representation, and creative labor and help Netflix expand their dominance, even while doing little to actually help native Korean media industries"-- Provided by publisher
