Summary:
The book "A escolha do rosa" [The choice of pink] narrates with texts and images the story of the transformation of the Marinhos' home (1946-2011), in Cosme Velhoa (a neighborhood in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro) into a public cultural space. The house was later transformed by the team led by Glauco Campello (2015-2018), who chose to synthesize and underline the neocolonial elements of the complex and its intersection with the vegetation of the exceptional park created by Roberto Burle Marx. The long tradition of artistic events that took place there, still as a family's residence, was central in establishing the features and cultural programming of the future Instituto Casa Roberto Marinho. "The care in the choice of pink - for which fifteen shades were experimented - became emblematic of the search for essential elements that could link the architecture of the institute of the 2000s to the construction of the 1930s. At the feet of the monumental Cristo Redentor statute, in the last strip of the Floresta da Tijuca, the Casa, with its walls restored to its original color, as it has always been there, welcoming everyone for the enjoyment of the gardens and the art gathered by its patron." --translated from Page 8.
This book documents the architectural intervention that transformed the former Marinho family residence in Cosme Velho, Rio de Janeiro, into the public cultural center Instituto Casa Roberto Marinho. Through texts and abundant color illustrations, it presents the design choices of Glauco Campello and his team, the adaptation of domestic spaces into exhibition areas, technical reserves, and educational facilities, and the relationship between the neocolonial architecture and the surrounding gardens designed by Roberto Burle Marx.
