Biography/History:

Naomi Knüttgen is a senior desk officer in the DAAD's section for Research and Studies. In the context of Wissenschaft weltoffen, she focuses on analysing the international mobility of students and academics. Nicolai Netz is a senior researcher in the research area Educational Careers and Graduate Employment at the DZHW, where he leads various projects addressing issues related to spatial mobility, educational decisions, returns to education, mental health, and social inequality. Jan Kercher is a senior researcher in the DAAD's section for Research and Studies and heads various publication and data collection projects in the field of international academic mobility and university internationalisation. Inessa Fuge is a project assistant in the research area Research Infrastructure and Methods at the DZHW, where she is responsible for updating and evaluating the Wissenschaft weltoffen database.

Summary:

Since 2001, Wissenschaft weltoffen analyses the internationalisation of higher education and science in Germany and around the world. The compact edition of the annual data report contains the latest internationalisation indicators in a visually appealing format. The indicators presented provide information on mobility rates and countries of origin and destination of internationally mobile students in Germany and abroad. They also relate to researcher mobility to and from Germany as well as internationalisation structures in German higher education. The indicators presented are based on international data published by the OECD and UNESCO, national data from the Federal Statistical Office and the findings of own surveys among organisations that support students' and researchers' international mobility.
