"The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (NRICH) had been carrying out a detailed research project on large-scale Buddhist paintings, gwaebul, jointly with Cultural Heritage Administration and the Research Institute of Sungbo Cultural Heritage. As part of this project, the NRICH is publishing a series of books entitled The Beauty of Korean Gwaebul with high-resolution photographs and in-depth studies by related experts. This book is the English version of the re-edits of The Beauty of Korean Gwaebul 1: Gyeongsang Province, the first volume in the series published in Korean in 2022.This book is designed to make advanced studies on gwaebul paintings in Korea available to international researchers in art history and Buddhist culture. Accordingly, it follows The Chicago Manual of Style, which is widely employed for English-language academic books and articles in the humanities"-- NRICH website (volume 1).
