Summary:
Edmonton, Alberta is famous for its hockey, beautiful river valley and massive shopping centres, but is also notorious for its brutal winters. What becomes of the city’s homeless population when temperatures plummet? Who takes care of the city’s neediest, most forgotten residents? Delores Nataway has a very personal connection to the people she serves through Edmonton’s Hope Mission – she’s been there, and was once dependent on the Mission to help her through her own homelessness, hopelessness and addiction. Now she ministers to others, while providing bagged lunches and warm meals, addictions treatment for those who are ready for it, and a roof over their heads for the night. Meanwhile, over at the nearby Boyle-McCauley Health Centre, nurse Terri-Lee Spence and social workers Faye Dewar and Geri Whiteman – all of whom are Aboriginal – fight the uphill battle of caring for the medical, social and housing needs of Edmonton’s most disenfranchised.
