Summary:
Hidden Focus is a feature documentary that takes a close look at Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the Black community, a group that has long been underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and left out of the mainstream ADHD conversation. Through personal interviews, expert commentary, and the lived experience of those living with the disorder, the film breaks down what ADHD actually is, how it shows up in everyday life, and how cultural, social, and systemic factors shape the way it is recognized and treated in Black Americans. The film also challenges the myths and stigma that keep many from seeking help in the first place. The subject is personal to director David L. Brown, who is Black and has ADHD himself, and his perspective gives the film a voice and honesty rarely seen in documentaries on this subject. Hidden Focus is a resource for students, educators, clinicians, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of ADHD beyond the surface-level narratives.
