First edition of the original manuscript by Jean Laforgne, professor of the French language at the Ritter-akademie in Dresden. On appearance of the 4th volume, the publication of the Mémoires was prohibited by the government, and v. 5-8 appeared with imprint: Paris, Heindeloff et Campé, rue Vivienne no. 16, 1832, v. 9-12: Bouxelles, 1838.

Upon a German abridged edition previously pub. by Wilkein Schütz, Leipzig, F.A. Brocklaus, 1822-24 is based the French edition with title: Mémoires du Vénétien J. Casanova de Seingalt, extraits de ses manuscrits orignaux, publiés en Allemagne, par G. de Schütz. Paris, 1825-29, 14 vol. (v. 8 to 14 have title. Mémoires [etc.] pub. en Allemagne et traduits par M. Aubert de Vitny). cf. Brockhaus, Vollstandiges verzeichniss ... 1872-1875, und Vicaire, Manuel, t. 2.
