- Summary:
- A coming-of-age story set in 1969, "Boomerang" involves the 25th birthday party of Arthur, student activist facing military draft who is determined to make this a night to remember. They smoke pot, get naked, conduct a séance and burn the flag in a hapless romp assessing the costs and benefits of a turbulent decade. In attendance are other '60s archetypes impacted by social turmoil -- a nun who left the convent, Vietnam vet, Black Panther, radical feminist -- Baby Boomers convinced they are ushering in a new age of peace, love and liberation. But the festivities spiral out of control as permissive behavior triggers old-style moralizing that challenges the decade's revolutionary presumptions. A bracing glimpse at the appeal of charismatic troublemakers and the importance of skepticism in times of disruptive change, the play was self-produced in 2015.
