Summary:
This case study is based on understanding the complex nature of civil-military relations in Nigeria, which has changed in recent time, as the military no longer see themselves as merely an instrument of state defence, but as a part of the civil world, particularly in the role of nation-building, by developing good relations with civilian entity. This study examines the impact of military operations on peace and security in Kwara State, Nigeria, which employed a mixed-methods design, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to explore how military interventions uphold human rights, ensure judicious use of force, and contribute to community services in conflict-affected areas. Key methodological challenges include sampling diverse stakeholders (military personnel, community leaders, and civil society members) and balancing ethical considerations in sensitive security contexts. Given the nature of the case study, a mixed-method research design can accurately show factual findings. This research method will help readers highlights practical strategies for conducting research especially in a militarized environments, such as building trust with participants and navigating logistical constraints. In conclusion, readers will learn how to design robust mixed-methods studies in complex settings, apply multistage sampling techniques, and apply triangulation to strengthen research findings. Keywords: civil-military relations; conflict-zone research; mixed-methods research; peace and security.
