- Summary:
- Statistical interaction is a difficult concept to understand in research methodology used in the social sciences. This guide is designed to provide instruction on what a statistical interaction is, how it is relevant to experimental designs, and how to identify interactions in a data set. Two examples are provided, one based on an everyday experience with food and one based on an important topic in the research literature for students (the testing effect). Both examples are provided with data and graphs to help students understand how to identify and describe interactions in a data set, and each example illustrates different types of interactions that can be seen in factorial experiments. Examples of APA-style results reports for interactions are also provided as models of how to write the portion of a Results section for statistical interactions in a research report.
