- Summary:
- This Case Study discusses how a mixed-methods approach was used to study the health-seeking behavior of pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus in the city of Kano, Nigeria. I explain the steps and techniques I used for this approach. I present how combining both qualitative and quantitative methods in hospital-based research aids in investigating the health-seeking behavior of pregnant women. Using a mixed-methods approach is significant and advantageous because it balances out the weaknesses of using only one type of research method. By combining both approaches and triangulation of research tools, one can achieve better results. I also used the probability-proportional-to-size method of sampling. This sampling technique is important in a study where more than one hospital is chosen for the research and equal representation of the research population is desired for a better scientific stance. This Case Study provides a practical guide to researchers for adopting mixed-methods research and probability-proportional-to-size sampling in various settings.
