- Summary:
- This study provides an understanding of the usage of trade indices in evaluating trade dynamics, performance assessment, and complexities of international trade. This data-driven approach allows for more targeted policies and strategies to be implemented, leading to more efficient and effective trade practices. This study was conducted at Kardan University, Afghanistan, and was concerned with understanding the trade dynamics of Afghanistan. The study offered valuable insights into the potential advantages and challenges of trade dynamics for Afghanistan. It assisted in identifying strategies to leverage trade policies for more inclusive and sustainable growth. Gauging these objectives, the study heavily relied on trade indices, like the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Revealed Import Dependence (RID), Trade Intensity Index (TII), Export Intensity Index (EII), Import Intensity Index (III) and the Lafay Index. In the context of international trade, these indices propose a novel approach to forecasting prospective comparative advantages based on relative price differences between Afghanistan and its trading countries. The study analyzed and employed UNCOMTRADE trade data using relevant perspectives drawn from contemporary international trade theories. The research validates the key role of trade indices in informing us about complex trading contexts, empowering countries to recognize and reflect on key aspects of their trading practices and boosting economic environments.
