Summary:
There is increasing demand to share both quantitative and qualitative research data in line with the FAIR data principles (that data be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable). Although there are often good reasons not to share qualitative data for some projects, data sharing may be appropriate, feasible, and even expected by participants. The Student Guide contained herein will illustrate how qualitative interview data should be reviewed, deidentified, and anonymized for data archival. Following completion of this lesson, students should understand why and how researchers anonymize qualitative data for archival, reflect on whether data archival is appropriate and feasible for their own research, and be able to develop a deidentification plan for their own qualitative interview data with support from their supervisor or mentor. The Dataset is accompanied by a Teaching Guide, a Student Guide, and a How-to Guide.
