- Summary:
- This How-to Guide considers how we might apply research methodologic approaches beyond academia and academic research (i.e., in the practitioner sphere). There is often a perceived barrier between the two realms with little interaction occurring. However, this guide argues that this common view is not really useful, adequate, or appropriate and, in fact, that there is much to be gleaned from a deeper understanding of everyday sensemaking by developing an understanding of research methodology. This guide presents and examines the role of, for instance, conceptual frameworks, social constructionism, experiential learning, and habitus and how these show the nexus between nonacademic, or every-day, and academic thinking. Equally, this guide considers the principal paradigm groupings in research methodology and illustrates how these connect with daily life. Overall, this How -to Guide underlines and demonstrates that there is much to be derived for areas beyond the academic realm from possession of a more rounded understanding of research methodology.
