Summary:
This case study utilizes 's narrative inquiry framework, Labov's narrative analysis, and indigenous methodologies to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on teaching and learning in Trinidad and Tobago. The research emphasizes the importance of employing culturally sensitive approaches to authentically represent Trinbagonian voices in higher education. Through the use of field notes, observations, Canvas and Zoom analytics, and semi-structured interviews the study provides a comprehensive exploration of how the pandemic shaped educational experiences. One significant challenge was balancing the dual roles of insider (lecturer) and outsider (researcher), which required careful reflexivity. In line with Clandinin and Connelly's narrative inquiry framework, reflexive journaling and critical self-assessment were key to mitigating bias and ensuring authenticity. Labov's narrative analysis further enhanced the study by structuring participants' stories into distinct components--such as orientation, complicating action, evaluation, and resolution--offering deeper insights into the students' experiences (Patterson, 2008).Moreover, the integration of indigenous methodologies contributed to a culturally relevant approach, aligning with efforts to decolonize research practices. The combination of qualitative and quantitative data sources enriched the study, providing a more nuanced understanding of the challenges posed by the pandemic on education. Ultimately, this study offers valuable lessons for future research, advocating for the use of narrative inquiry, indigenous methodologies, and rigorous data analysis to ensure culturally sensitive and inclusive research outcomes.
