Summary:
This report describes the factors that create veiling glare from the windshield and provides a mathematical model using these factors to predict the level of veiling glare that will be present with any instrument panel/windshield configuration. The factors, in order of importance are: windshield angle, gloss/texture of instrument panel top surface, inclination of instrument panel relative to the windshield and the lightness value of the color of the instrument panel top cover. The measurement method for quantifying veiling glare was performed using a General Motors developed laboratory fixture with good repeatability and reproducibility
