Summary:
The Datatrak AVLS and Position Reporting System has now been in commercial use in the United Kingdom for over two years and now covers virtually the whole of England and the industrial areas of Wales and Scotland. All aspects of the system have proved to be extremely reliable and the provision of a high degree of redundancy has contributed to virtually 100% availability at all times. The system utilises a dedicated low frequency hyperbolic radio system for location and a unique data network for position reporting. Special software has been written to make full use of the position data received. The demand for the system is growing rapidly in the UK; there is now a wide range of users and several thousand vehicles have been equipped. Some principle applications are described and these show that the cost savings resulting from the use of the system have become an important and significant selling factor
