Summary:
In order to improve the structure of L-type combustion chamber for small gasoline engine (SGE) with side-valve, many uses for SGE and the proportion of production to SGE with side-valve were described. The possibilities and difficulties of improving the performances for SGE with side-valve were explained according to the current understanding of combustion theory for lean mixtures. After the advantages and disadvantages of a L-type combustion chamber with side-valve were analysed, a new combustion chamber configuration with oblique dish-shape was put forward. Basic features of the new combustion chamber were enumerated the bench tests including performances at WOT, at 3000 rpm, air fuel ratio at 3000 rpm, exhaust emissions at 3000 rpm, and measures of indicator diagram data within fifty cycles for 165F engine were also conducted
