Summary:
In the area of repair and restoration coatings, Inconel 718 material is applied using thermal spray processes to dimensional repair components where wear and friction has caused critical damage. In the aircraft industry, restoration of inside dimension coatings requires high bond strengths, dense, oxide free and machinable type coatings. This paper presents the use of High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) spray processing in components which require small inside dimensional repair and restoration type coatints. The comparison of plasma sprayed vs. HVOF sprayed Inconel 718 coatings regarding bond tensile strengths, mechanical properties, microstructural characterization and thickness limitations are evaluated. In addition, machinability tests and surface capabilities are covered
