Summary:

This paper deals with a method of isolating vibration which can be applied to four - stroke, inline, two-cylinder engines with an even firing interval of 360°. This new method effectively isolates 1-st order vibration by positioning engine components and mountings in a way that provides the engine with an oscillation center without the use of additional balancer shafts. The conditions required for the existence of such an engine oscillation center, its movement and the effectiveness of this vibration isolation method are theoretically studied.
