- Summary:
- Some crews perform remarkably well while others leave much to be desired--and often cause accidents. The difference between these types of crews is repeatedly credited to the captain but often without operational definitions of his or her behavior. This research examined the behaviors of effective vs. less effective captains as they formed and led their crews in line operations. Common characteristics of the effective leaders as well as the deviations of the less effective are described. Organizational implications are noted
