- Summary:
- This paper addresses the effects of unbalanced loads and nonlinear loads on the behavior of three-phase aircraft electrical power systems supplied by synchronous generators. Related items treated include:Discussions are supported by analytical and empirical data.Filtering, specifications that limit load-induced distortion, and novel voltage regulators are offered as alternatives.BECAUSE OF THE SINGULAR IMPORTANCE of weight and efficiency of systems onboard aircraft, generators used to supply electric power to aircraft loads are sized with little extra capacity. Consequently, and unlike land-based, utility-type generating networks, unbalanced and nonlinear loads usually make up a substantial portion of the rated output, and their effects on the behavior of the system are pronounced. This paper discusses these effects and suggests methods of minimizing them
