Summary:
A new Head Up Display (HUD), using a graphic Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), is proposed.Double-layered Super-Twisted Nematic (D-STN) LCD, which realizes a black/white display with high contrast, is one of the most promising solutions among several liquid crystal display modes. Contrast ratio is typically higher than 100 and operating temperature range is 20 °C to 70°C.Backlight is also a problem to realize LCD-HUD. Hot-cathode fluorescent tube is used in our prototype HUD. Luminance of the display can be tuned from 40 cd/m2 to 1,200 cd/m2.D-STN is proved to be a promising display device for HUD
