Summary:
Adaptability of vehicles to field conditions in the North is of great importance from the point of view of guaranteeing reliable transport communication of this region, because vehicular transport is carrying out great bulk of freight turnover in development of industry in the North region.Degree of adaptability of vehicles to operation in extreme road/climatic conditions, which determines their effective and safe functioning, must be estimated by results of climatic tests, approximated to real conditions of operation at most, this concerns prototypes too.For the purpose of increase of efficiency of making and development of vehicles for the North the Northern test station (SIS) - was established, which is an affiliate of Automobile Proving Ground of NAMI of Ministry of automobile industry of the USSR, which intended for tests of vehicles in cold climatic zone. This station is located in the coldest climatic sone of the USSR - Susuman, Magadan region. In this paper the information about station's facilities laboratories as well as its testing capacity is given. Then the paper presents information about technology and methods of carring out tests, main test routes and routes of delivery vehicles for tests from central regions of the USSR.We give analysis of road and climatic factors of external influence in the region, on the whole, and in the area of location of the North test station, in particular. The paper presents data on experimental investigations of load conditions of vehicle on typical test routes, then it gives comparative analysis of loading of some main components of vehicle during tests in the North test station and on the test roads of the Proving Ground of NAMI.Then we state long-terms planes for future development of laboratory base and test methods and main requirements to construction and parameters of components and systems of vehicle on the whole
