Summary:
In 1985, Robert Bosch GmbH and Intel Corporation agreed to develop in-vehicle network devices based on the Controller Area Network (CAN) specification. By mid-1987, the first product for real-time control had successfully yielded functional samples, and today this product is being introduced worldwide.This paper will focus on the status of the first CAN device, describe the support tools available to assist the user with implementation of CAN, and look into the future to discuss a family of products designed to meet the needs of all classes of in-vehicle network applications
