- Summary:
- This paper presents results from an experimental investigation of thermal barrier influence on engine performance and heat transfer under a wide range of operating conditions.Examination of the recorded data shows how different surface configurations influence the in-cylinder process, fuel consumption, heat loss and exhaust energy. Steady state temperature fields are calculated and data derived as functions of coating thickness, location and condition. Results show that the temperature level and gradients in a heat loaded component may be reduced and thus lower the stresses in the component
