Summary:
The Daimler-Benz passenger car diesel engines for the 600 series introduced in 1983 are produced exclusively as prechamber engines. The basically lower consumption of a direct injection diesel engine relative to a prechamber engine has already given rise to many publications on the suitability of this combustion process to drive passenger cars. However, it always turned out that for reasons of noise and exhaust emissions the introduction of this method for comfortable passenger cars was unacceptable. For many years, Daimler-Benz have investigated the direct injection diesel engine for passenger cars (1). The latest state of the art is presented here
