Summary:
To calculate the thermal loading of the air-cooled diesel engine, the knowledge of the heat transfer coefficient at the contour of the components on the engine under consideration is necessary. In the present paper, a Variable Space Integral Method (VSIM)' is proposed by which the distribution of the local heat transfer coefficient αg(h) and ensemble averaged gas temperature Tres(h) along the cylinder liner on the gas side, could be calculated. Using this method, the calculated temperature field and heat flux in components for several similar types of engine are compared with the experimental results, which show sufficient accuracy. In order to satisfy demands of the engineering practice calculation, the authors suggest some semi-empirical formulae of heat transfer coefficient as well
