Summary:
The ingestion of salt-laden moisture in the form of road spray, into a vehicle's air intake system can result in reduced engine performance and engine life. The gradual extension of engine life by engine manufacturers has resulted in a greater need to address the problem of salt ingestion. This paper describes problems arising from the ingestion of salt-laden moisture, and the development of test methods that can be used as tools to help evaluate a vehicle's susceptibility to ingesting moisture, and its ability to separate out ingested moisture before reaching the filter media
