- Summary:
- In the past decades a number of computer programs have been established to simulate the interaction of Diesel engines and turbochargers for one- and two-stage operation. As this paper never can give a comprehensive survey on the literature published on this topic the names of Benson and Watson in England and Borman and Heywood in the United States should be mentioned vicariously for many other authors. By these programs a number of questions, such as the thermal and mechanical load of the engine, for medium speed engines a performance limiting factor, or how to decrease fuel consumption, can be answered by calculation. So by a combined application of calculation and experiments time and costs can be reduced developing a new engine
