Continuous vibration monitoring of engines in-flight has become routine since the introduction of FAR 25.1305 (d) (3) in 1974 not only on civil aircraft, but also increasingly with military aircraft. Although early AVM systems were often unreliable; modern systems are not only reliable and credible, but also cost-effective.This paper will discuss briefly the principal technical components of AVM systems, then describe "the current state of the art" and the uses and effectiveness of AVM
