Summary:
This paper relates to the development of an improved gasket product by the use of a new liquid rubber coating material. The new liquid rubber, a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, diene and Substituted acrylamide monomers, has been specially synthesized for this purpose. The coating process involves a 100% solid system. Coated products made out of this liquid rubber on SAE 1008 steel, have been tested for gasket applications. Based on results obtained from such tests, it is concluded that such coated products are suitable to function as excellent gaskets up to a temperature of 176°C (350°F). Surface topography, sealability, compression set and fuel and oil resistance are excellent under different work conditions and different levels of compressive load
